Aaron Hemens is a photographer and journalist based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. He is a multimedia reporter at Kelowna Capital News.
Prior to relocating to Kelowna in April 2021, Aaron served as the editor/reporter of the Creston Valley Advance, a community newspaper published weekly in the town of Creston, B.C., from August 2020 to March 2021.
Similarly, from January to August 2019, he was the editor/reporter of the Inuvik Drum, a community newspaper that is published weekly in Inuvik – a town in Canada’s Northwest Territories, located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle.
Aaron graduated from Carleton University’s journalism program in June 2018. He was named as the recipient of the Mitch Jacobson Memorial Award in Photojournalism that same year.
During the 2017-18 academic year, he was the assistant photographer at the Charlatan, Carleton’s independent student newspaper. He would later serve as the photo editor for the summer of 2018.
